Instructions

    • 1

Choose a room in which you would like to set up the Xbox 360. Living rooms and rooms with computers are ideal because they often feature a modem and a display to connect to the console.

    • 2

Connect your modem to a router using a network cable if one is not already connected.

    • 3

Connect to a wired network by plugging one end of a network cable into the router and the other into the Xbox 360 while the system is turned off. The network port on the Xbox 360 is located on the back of the system.

Connect to a wireless network by plugging a wireless adapter into the Xbox 360's network port. Turn the system on and go to the "Systems" tab, then the "Network Settings" option and then to "Edit Settings." Select your network and enter your password if the network is protected.

    • 5

Return to the dashboard and select "Join Xbox Live" to create a profile. Xbox Live Silver support comes at no cost, but to play online, you will need a paid Xbox Live Gold account.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use a network extender that plugs in to any outlet to establish a wired connection outside of the room that contains the modem.
