How to Delete Individual Items From the IE7 Drop-Down History

Websites that you have visited while using Internet Explorer 7, or IE7, will remain listed in the drop-down history of the program. Every item listed in the drop-down history can be removed by deleting the browsing history in Internet Explorer. You may only wish to remove one or a few items from the list of visited websites. Your computer's registry editor will allow you to delete individual items from the IE7 drop-down history.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Start" in the taskbar.

    • 2

Select "Run." A small box will appear.

    • 3

Type "regedit" into the "Open" text box. Click "OK." The registry editor will open.

    • 4

Choose "HKEY_CURRENT_USER." A list of options will appear.

    • 5

Double-click "Software." More folders will appear.

    • 6

Select the "Microsoft" folder. More folders will then be listed.

    • 7

Choose "Internet Explorer." Once more, a new list of folders will show up.

    • 8

Open the "Typed URLs" folder. When you do this, the items in the IE7 drop-down history will appear in the middle of the window.

    • 9

Right-click on any items you wish to delete from the IE7 drop-down history. Select "Delete." A box will appear asking you to confirm. Select "Yes." The individual item will be deleted. Do this until you're finished editing the drop-down history. Then, close the registry editor.

Tips & Warnings

  • Only edit the "Typed URLs" folder in the registry editor. Then, close the window immediately. Editing anything else in the registry editor could cause serious computer problems.
