Remove Cigarette Smoke Odor From Your Car

Whither you are now a nonsmoker (congratulations) or you have bought a used car that has the lingering smell of a smoker, you can easily remove the odor for good. First off remember you do not want to mask the odor with chemicals that will only give a temporary fix to the smell, and even make t worse sometimes. Try one of these tricks to get rid of it for good.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    VINEGAR -

Place a bowl of regular vinegar in your car overnight with the windows all the way up. Then in the morning take the vinegar out and open the windows to remove the vinegar smell. Vinegar works very good at removing tough odors, and will not have a lingering scent long afterwords.

  2. Step 2

WASH THE CARPET AND UPHOLSTERY -

Shampoo the carpet and upholstery yourself or brig it somewhere to have it down for you. You can rent machine if you do not have one to properly clean it. Then leave the windows open to allow everything to completely dry.

  3. Step 3

    COFFEE GROUNDS -

Place coffee grounds in a bowl the same way you do the vinegar, and allow it to sit in your car overnight with the windows all the way up. Make sure you do not yet the coffee grounds. You can also place the grounds on the carpet in your car and vacuum them out in the morning.

  4. Step 4

    FEBREEZE -

Spray Febreeze all over inside of our car. It does work well to mask the odor and takes it out somewhat, but it is temporary. You can make your car smell good in between cleanings with this great product.

  5. Step 5

    CHARCOAL -

You can leave an open bag of charcoal in your car with the windows all the way up overnight. You may have to do this more then once to completely remove the odor.

  6. Step 6

    PURE VANILLA EXTRACT -

Place a few drops of pure vanilla extract onto a rag, then lace it underneath your seat. The vanilla will help absorb the smokey scent. You may have to do this a few times, but the vanilla also makes your car smell great.

  7. Step 7

These tips work great for all sorts of odors you may experience in your car!

on 8/20/2009 I bought a used car that smelled like cigarettes. I hated it but liked the car, the smell eventually faded or perhaps I just got used to it after a while. I would have loved this advice back then. Nice job on this one.

on 8/20/2009 Ugh. I got my used car professionally detailed when I bought it. I could still smell the smoke a little. Took about 6 months of aring out for the smell to finally go away. I think that's why my car was inexpensive.
