One of Elvis's favorite breakfast foods was purported to be a fried banana with peanut butter sandwich.

If it was good enough for the King.....

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ripe Banana
  • Bread
  • Butter or Margarine
  • Mayo, and/or Peanut Butter, and/or Marshmallow Creme

Butter one side of each of two slices of fresh bread.

Softened butter or soft buttery spread makes this task easier, so as not to tear the bread.

Place the two buttered sides together on a saucer.

  2. Step 2
Mayonnaise can be regular, low fat or low cal

Apply mayo and/or peanut butter, to the first unbuttered side. A combination of mayonnaise on one slice and peanut butter on the other is a uniquely delicious alternative.

Slice banana onto the mayonnaise or peanut butter covered piece of bread.

  4. Step 4
Place buttered side down in pan

Place this slice of bread with bananas into a warm pan. The bread is already buttered, so no need for cooking spray or butter in the pan.

  5. Step 5
    Add second slice of bread

Put your preferred condiment on the second slice of bread and place butter side up onto the slice already in the pan.

Toast each side at medium heat for about a minute each side. Unlike for a grilled cheese sandwich, the banana inside this sandwich does not need to be melted. So, toast only until the bread is the shade of brown you desire.

  7. Step 7
Cut in half and serve warm

Remove to a saucer. Cut in half.

Best served warm with a glass of ice cold milk.

    Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • For a healthier sandwich use soft olive oil butter spread, or your choice of a health conscious spread. Likewise, low fat or low calorie mayonnaise if you prefer.
  • For best flavor use wonderfully ripe bananas.
  • Serve in attractive quarters for a novelty brunch addition.
  • Great also for a late night snack.
  • For a truly decadent delight apply marshmallow creme to one slice of bread and peanut butter to the other. YUM!
  • Also delicious with crisp bacon added!
  • Bananas can be crushed and blended with peanut butter and/or mayonnaise.
  • Addictive

on 8/1/2009 Here's an article I can really sink my teeth into. In the beginning of the article I thought this did look a little decadent and thought I'd go with the healthier alternatives you suggest but by the end I decided to go with the flow and now I'm thinking some nice crispy bacon would go well with this ensemble. Perhaps I'll add a piece of lettuce to quell my conscience. Thank you. Thank you very much!
