This article will show you step by step technical directions to learn to snap a football. Additionally, you'll learn practice tips for how to get better at snapping the ball in game situations.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Football
  1. Step 1

When learning, start with a four point stance. Your feet should be flat and shoulder width apart, back is straight, and eyes straight ahead. Your weight is distributed correctly if you can lift your hands without falling forward.

  2. Step 2

Place a football in your dominant hand. Your thumb should be near the top of the laces and the nose of the ball pointed up. Your fingers should be securely under the ball. Once the your grip is in place, return your eyes to the defense.

  3. Step 3

When the QB calls for the snap, pull the football between your legs hard and twist your hand so that the QB receives the ball sideways with laces in his hands. As your hand is going back, you should take the first step towards whatever block you are assigned.

Tips & Warnings
  • After you get comfortable, remove your non-snapping hand from the ground.
  • You can also move the ball closer to the middle of your stance.
  • Practice making the snap while stepping to your blocks.
  • Practice snapping without a ball and trying to grasp hand of QB to make sure you are getting the ball far enough back.
