I am going to show you how to forward the required ports on a Belkin router to allow hosting on Warcraft III.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Belkin Router
  • Warcraft III
  1. Step 1

First thing your going to need to do is find out your computers specific I.P address and the access gateway to your router. One of the best ways to do this (on windows) is to click the start button, then click on the "run" program. A new window should pop up in this window type "cmd". A larger black window should now be up in this type "ipconfig". Below what you have typed should be some lines of text, copy down the IP Address and Default Gateway numbers you see.

  2. Step 2

With the Default Gateway number in hand open a browser window such as Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer and enter the string of numbers (IE 192.168.1.1) and hit enter. This should bring up the login page for your router, enter your information and login. Doing so will bring you to the main page of your router.

  3. Step 3

On the main page on the left side panel should be categories. Navigate to the firewall category, and below it should be the virtual servers link, click this link. You should now be on the virtual servers page.

  4. Step 4

On the virtual servers page you'll see numbered rows. This is where information will be entered to allow hosting. Next to row 1 in the description column put in WarcraftIII1. In the inbound port column enter 6112 - 6119. in the type column select from the drop down box TCP. In the private IP address (this is an important step) you will need to enter the last digit in the IP address you wrote down earlier. Now for the final column enter 6112 - 6119 once more. Check the enable box in the first column

  5. Step 5

Your almost done, we will need to enter in the information one more time of a different type to ensure hosting will work. Next to row 2 in the description column put in WarcraftIII2. In the inbound port column enter 6112 - 6119. in the type column select from the drop down box UDP. In the private IP address enter the last digit in the IP address you wrote down earlier. In the final column enter 6112 - 6119 once more. Check the enable box in the first column

  6. Step 6

Click apply changes and your done! You should now be able to host on Warcraft III without the limitation of firewalls.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you know your login information for the router. If you do not you can always reset it from the button on the back and set it up once again with information you will remember.
  • To be totally effective, in some cases, all firewalls must be configured as well as your router for you to host. Sometimes its as simple as clicking allow when it asks for permission to run.
  • To avoid firewall complications with windows you should disable the windows firewall. If you have a firewall actively running this should not harm your security in any way.
  • Recommended Belkin routers: F1PI-241EGau through the WRTR-159G series.
