Tape a Softball Bat
Tape a Softball Bat

A lot of softball players use grip tape on the handle of their softball bats to get a better grip while batting. The grip tape helps your hand stick to the bat and increases the control of your swing. Batting gloves help, but with grip tape you do not have to worry about misplacing it like you might do with a bat. Also, with more batting control there will be more batting accuracy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • softball bat
  • shoe string
  • grip tape
  1. Step 1

Before just taping up the handle of your softball bat, you need to use a shoestring. Start at the bottom of the handle and wind the shoe string around it as far as you want the grip tape to go. Do not wind it tight because you are going to wind it back down, making a criss cross pattern.

  2. Step 2

The next step is to wind the grip tape over the shoestring and up the handle. You are going to want to keep the shoestring in place, so this can be a little tricky and tedious. It is possible to tape and wind the string at the same time. By doing this you will wind the string up the handle, taping as you go, and then wind the string back down the handle in a criss cross pattern, taping back down after it.

  3. Step 3

Once you have the handle taped, you will want to secure the tape at the top of the handle and bottom of the handle. To do this, take the tape and wind it three times around the top part of the handle, and then wind some tape three times around the bottom of the handle. Now you are ready to join your softball team and become the top batter!

Tips & Warnings
  • Grip tape can be found at the sporting goods store.
  • Do not use a super long shoestring because it will just make your job harder.
