Step 1
Locate a good tailor. Good tailors can be found in their own business, at a dry cleaner store or at the local department store. You will have to shop around or ask family and friends for references. A good tailor will do the job right the first time whereas a average tailor will require more then one time to tailor the suit.

Step 2
Know body measurements. For the suit jacket:
- The top of the suit jacket should cover the shoulders to the outer edge. The top should not be short as it will pull up the sleeves. The top should not be too long as it will look like your shoulders never end.
- The sleeves should extend from the armpit to the hand just above the thumb knuckle.
- The back of the suit jacket should fit straight and smooth. The back of the jacket should not be bulky or appear as a tent. -
Step 3
The pants should:
- be fitted from the waist line to the top of the foot.
- the waist should be snug against the waistline. Although the pants require a belt they should not fall down if no belt is worn.
- the legs should be tapered down the leg to the top of the foot. The edge of the pant should end at the half-way point of the foot (half-way from front to back).
- the seat of the pants should be smooth. Not wrinkling or bunching up of the pants.
