Step 1
Always place affiliate or pay-per-click ads on each page. Since most website visitors will not make an initial purchase based on an accidental hit, it's always a good idea to make a profit (however small) from exiting traffic. While not usually a main source of income for webmasters, affiliate or pay-per-click ads do ensure that something is occasionally earned from lost traffic.
-
Step 2
Place an email sign-up form on each webpage. While a visitor may not have purposely found your site, she might be interested in the content all the same. While it isn't likely she'll stay long, she may be willing to sign up for your email marketing so that she can consider your product or service at another time. (Do be sure that your email marketing service requires subscription confirmation to avoid unnecessary spam reporting).
-
Step 3
Make an initial impression that will stick. Profiting from accidental web traffic means being patient and allowing the visitor a chance to absorb your message over time. While she may not make a commitment today, be clear about your services on your home page so that your visitor will have a thorough understanding of your website within seconds.
-
Step 4
Utilize pop-ups. A final discount or special offer located in a pop-up that appears as the visitor leaves can greatly increase the odds that she may stay a moment longer and consider your product. Do avoid excessive pop-up use, however, and make yours easy to exit out of.
