Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Adobe Photoshop CS3
  • Any Image
  1. Step 1

There are two ways to open the Selective Color command box.

One option is to click on the (icon in the lower right corner) Create new fill or adjustment layer -> Selective Color.

Another is to click on (top left) Image -> Adjustments -> Selective Color.

  2. Step 2

Choose a color to work with from the Color drop-down menu.

These are the visible colors on your image.

  3. Step 3

Use the sliders to adjust the components of the color.

The Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black sliders control how much of the component is in the selected color.

e.g. Dragging the Cyan to the right adds more cyan to the Selected Color, it won't necessarily change the Selected Color to Cyan.

  4. Step 4

The Relative Method adjusts the component based on the current color.

The Absolute Method adjusts the component without considering the color range of the existing color. (e.g. light red or dark red)

  5. Step 5

To save the Selective Color settings, click Save and find a location to store the file. You can also click Load to use the settings on other pictures.

Tips & Warnings
  • I don't bother with the Methods. I usually leave it on Relative.
