You can have the greenest lawn on your block by following these few easy steps!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lawn Mower
  • Sprinkler
  • Rotary Spreader
  • Fertilizer
  1. Step 1

To get the best results mow the yard first and, if possible, bag the clippings before putting down the fertilizer. To achieve the plush lawn in my photo, I mow my lawn to a height of 3 to 3-1/2 inches tall and mulch it in.

  2. Step 2

Your local home improvement store can help you select a fertilizer with a higher nitrogen level to promotes development of a greener color in your grass without burning your lawn. My grass color was achieved by using a ration of 28-0-3, with 28 being the Nitrogen, 0 the Phosphorous and 3 the Potassium.

  3. Step 3

To put down the fertilizer, use a spreader and adjust the settings to those recommended on the fertilizer bag. When using the spreader, keep the overlap between rows as you pass to a minimum.

  4. Step 4

Water in the fertilizer within 24 hours of application to quickly activate it and prevent it from sitting on top of your lawn or being blown around. It is best to keep children and pets off of the lawn until the fertilizer has been thoroughly watered in and has time to dry. Taking extra precautions to protect children and pets away from chemicals is always a priority!

  5. Step 5

With proper mowing and adequate watering, your grass will be deep green, plush and ready to show off within 2-3 weeks!
