Make your own agility weave poles for the special dog in your life.

If your dog competes in rally or dog agility competitions, agility weave poles are a must. Instead of spending a fortune on a set of weave poles that will break in a few months, make your own durable set for a fraction of the price.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 12 1" PVC pipes 36" tall
  • 12 pieces of rebar
  • Mallet or sledgehammer
  • Colored tape
  1. Step 1

Go to a building supply store and purchase rebar and 1” wide PVC pipe. PVC pipe usually comes in 10 ft long pieces, so ask the store to cut them into 3 ft long pieces. (Most stores ill offer this service for free. Others may charge up to 25¢ per cut.)

  2. Step 2

Determine the best place for the agility weave poles. The ideal location is a flat and grassy area with several feet of free space on all sides. Remember that these poles will be semi-permanently installed, so they should also be out of the way.

  3. Step 3

Use a strong or chalk line to mark off a straight line 19 ft 4 in long.

  4. Step 4

Use spray paint to mark off every 21 in. along the string including the beginning and the end. There should be 12 marks. This will be where the weave poles are installed.

  5. Step 5

Use a mallet or sledge hammer to drive a piece of rebar into each of the paint spots. They should be as straight as possible.

  6. Step 6

Pound each bar a minimum of 9 in. into the ground. The deeper they go, the sturdier the weave poles will be.

  7. Step 7

After installing each bar, slide a PVC pipe over each one.

Voilà! Agility weave poles! Have fun practicing with your canine friend. If one of the poles becomes damaged, simply add another one.
