How to Test for the Mensa High IQ Society

How to Test for the Mensa High IQ Societythumbnail
If people have always told you you're smart, maybe you should see if your IQ will get you into Mensa.

Ever wanted to join the Mensa high-IQ society? It's easy -- as long as you have the intelligence. The organization, which features service projects, special interest groups and a chance to meet up with other local smart people, has been around since 1946, and has more than 56,000 American members.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • High intelligence quotient
    • $40
    • Half a day for the aptitude test
      • 1

Sign up to take Mensa's IQ test at the group's website. You'll receive testing information for your area. The Mensa test costs $40 as of time of publication, and you must be at least 14 to take it.

      • 2

Consider taking practice tests at home, even though the Mensa test is an intelligence test, not an aptitude exam such as the SAT. The practice test might help if you're uncomfortable with standardized tests. For $18 -- as of time of publication -- Mensa will send you a practice test. You can also take the practice test online. You might also find other free online IQ tests for practice.

      • 3

Prepare yourself. You can't cram for an IQ test by studying, but be sure to get good sleep and eat a healthy meal.

      • 4

Wait for your test results. Unfortunately, Mensa doesn't tell you your actual intelligence test scores. They just tell you if you're in the top 2 percent.

      • 5

Become a Mensa member, or a member of your local Mensa chapter. Chapters have regular events where you can meet other Mensans in your area.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Mensa is made up of people whose IQ is in the top 2 percent of the population. While that sounds daunting, have you ever been in a group of 50 people and thought you were the smartest? Well, that's good enough: 1 in 50 are intelligent enough to join.
