How to Remove Acrotray.EXE

When you install programs on your PC, unnecessary extras are also often installed along with the program. These extras bog down the computer, and, in fact, do more harm than good. Acrotray.exe, a part of the Adobe Acrobat program, is one such unnecessary process that many users seek to disable because it is a resource hog. Luckily, disabling it is easy and will not affect Acrobat's functionality.

Step 1

Click the "Start" button and then click "Run". This will open a Windows box.

Type in "msconfig", minus the quotes. Press the "Enter" key and Microsoft Configure will open.

Click the "Startup" tab. Expand the "Command" field by dragging the bar to the right.

Step 4

Locate the start-up command "Acrotray.exe".

Step 5

Un-check the box next to "Acrotray.exe" and click "Apply". Then click "OK".

Exit Microsoft Configure by clicking the red "X" button in the top right of the screen.

Press the "CTRL + ALT + Delete" keys. This will open Windows Task Manager.

Step 8

Click the "Processes" tab and scroll down. Locate the "Acrotray.exe" process and click it. Then click "End Process" and then exit Task Manager.

Step 9

Reboot your computer by going to "Start" > "Shutdown" > "Restart" and Acrotray.exe will be removed.
