Printing services installed on Windows servers gives Unix clients the ability to print using the Windows servers. Microsoft server operating systems come with the protocol necessary for these print clients. The protocol is not installed by default, so you need to load the module from the "Add/Remove Programs" in the Windows Control Panel.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel." From the list of management consoles, double-click the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.

  2. Step 2

Click the "Windows Component" tab. This opens a list of components that are installed on the server computer.

  3. Step 3

Click the "Other Network File and Print Services" and click the "Details" button. This opens a window with a list of printing services available through the Windows operating system.

  4. Step 4

Click the check box labeled "Print Services for UNIX." Click the "OK" button. At this point, the printing services are installed. There is no need to reboot the server. The changes take effect immediately.
