Step 1
Carefully read through the Photoshop CS3 Extended manual. While the manual is definitely not a fun read, it is extremely thorough, covering the smallest detail of the program's functions.
-
Step 2
Read books written by experts outside of Adobe. These books tend to be more user friendly and accessible. Many have chapters written around projects that let you learn the tools of Photoshop as you work, since this is the best way to really understand a tools function. A few books you might want to look at include Photoshop CS3 Extended Video and 3D Bible by Lisa DaNae Dayley (2008), Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended for 3D and Video by Chad Perkins ( 2007) and Photoshop CS3 All-in-One Desk Reference For Dummies by Barbara Obermeier (2007). You should be able to order these and other books from Amazon. You might also find them at your local library.

Step 3
Join online groups and sites devoted to Photoshop in general, and to Photoshop CS3 Extended in particular, such as the Photoshop Café or PhotoshopSupport.com (see Resources). Besides the informative tutorials you will find on these sites, often they will have forums where you can ask any questions you might have about Photoshop CS3 Extended.

Step 4
Sign up for Photoshop courses at your local college. Many small schools offer both general and in-depth courses which cover the various uses of Photoshop. In addition, some online sites also have Photoshop courses (see Resources).
