Children with Cerebral Palsy often have physical difficulty moving the way others do. With therapy they may overcome some of their disability. This exercise helped my daughter start to crawl, and eventually walk.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Patience.
  • Time to work with your child.
  1. Step 1

Grap the child's legs right above their feet.

  2. Step 2

Rotate their legs as if the child is running or bicycling. Either motion works well to develop them for that walking step.

  3. Step 3

Do for at least 1 minute raising how long each time or with song. (With my daughter it works as run run run, run down the mountain, repeated in a sing-song for about 2 minutes, pumping her legs with each word.)

  4. Step 4

End with a bang, a kick or something to let your child know it's over. (with my little girl the song goes, run run run, run down the mountain, repeatedly for a couple of minutes, than "and kick kick kick". After a while they will start to process it both mentally and physically to where when you say; "Do you want to run down the mountain", they will understand.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make it into a song or game.
  • Make it fun for your child.
  • Child may resist at first, but will be more receptive in time.
  • Child might want to keep going even when you want to stop.
