By spending a few minutes sorting your clothing and linens before you begin your laundry, you will ensure that your laundry day goes smoothly and that your clothing comes out looking great every time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Space for your sorted laundry.
  1. Step 1

Start by separating all of your laundry into two piles - clothing and linens, i.e. sheets, towels, dish clothes, etc. You will want to separate your clothing from your linens for two reasons: First, while clothing can be washed in cold water, linens should be washed in warm water to discourage dust mites, and second, linens produce more lint than clothing so separating will ensure that after washing your clothing comes out looking as new and as lint free as possible.

  2. Step 2

Now take each of the clothing and linens piles and separate them each into piles of colors and whites.

  3. Step 3

The color piles of clothing and linens can now be separated into three more piles each for darks, lights, and reds.

  4. Step 4

Now that all of your laundry is separated properly you can begin washing!

Tips & Warnings
  • Reds and darks can be combined to save loads, but only do this if your reds have been previously washed.
