How to Make Coffee Essence for Iced Coffee Drinks

Using cold brewed coffee is convenient and makes a stronger iced coffee drink because it doesn't get watered down by melting ice. It keeps in the refrigerator for two weeks. Hot water can be added to it make hot coffee.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup ground coffee
  • 10 cups water
  • Strainer to filter coffee grounds. This could be cheesecloth, a fine mesh strainer, a filter basket from a coffee maker or coffee filters.
  • 2 pitcher or other containers. One to brew the coffee and one to strain the coffee into.
  1. Step 1

    Combine coffee and water in a pitcher and refrigerate overnight.

  2. Step 2

    Strain the coffee grounds from the coffee concentrate. Place strainer over empty pitcher and pour coffee mixture in. Discard coffee grounds and store coffee in refrigerator.

  3. Step 3

    For iced coffee, fill a pint glass with ice. Fill 3/4 full of coffee essence. Top off with milk or cream and a tablespoon of sugar. Stir and enjoy! Add a shot of liquor like Kahlua, Frangelico or Bailey's for a real treat.
    Make a coffee shake by blending the coffee essence with vanilla ice cream.
    Make Vietnamese coffee by using French roasted coffee grounds, like Cafe Du Monde, for the concentrate. Mix 1/4 cup of sweetened condensed milk with 5-6 ounces of coffee essence and pour over ice.
