Step One-
Your first step is to click the Start button on your task bar and then click the My Computer command on the Start menu. -

Click Tools on the My Computer Menu bar. On some computers it will give you the option to select organize instead of tools. Yet most computers will have a Tools menu. Click the Folder Options command on the menu selected to display the Folder Options dialog box for Windows XP. -

Step Three-
If necessary, click the General tab in the folder options dialog box to display the General sheet in Windows XP.
On a piece of paper write down the name of each folder option that is selected in the General sheet in the Folder Options dialog box. This will help you keep track of what you set it too. -

Click the Restore Defaults button in the General sheet. -

Click the View tab to display the View sheet.
Write down the name of each advanced setting that is selected in the View sheet in the Folder Options dialog box for Windows XP. -
