How to package an item for safe transit, whether it is fragile or not.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Depending on the fragility of the item, more or less bubble wrap should be used. All items however should be wrapped with some bubble wrap. Place the bubble wrap on a flat surface such as a table. Lay the item on the bubble wrap and roll it as to cover the entire item in approximately 3 to 4 layers of bubble. Fragile items like glass, ceramic, and other delicate items should be wrapped more thoroughly with approximately 6-7 layers of bubble.

  2. Step 2

Choose a box that allows for at least 2 inches of packing peanuts around the bubble wrapped item. This will allow for more cushioning while in transit. Tape the bottom of the box and fill it with approximately 2 inches of peanuts.

  3. Step 3

Place the item in the center of the box and then fill to the top with peanuts. Overfill the box by about 10 percent, so when you close the box up the flaps crush the peanuts into all corners of the box. This step is important as it will keep the item from moving around during shipment. Tape the top of the box shut and you are ready to attach the label.

Tips & Warnings
  • The more bubble and packing peanuts used the safer your item will be.
  • Be sure to tape the box neatly as it will be stronger and more secure.
