Easily upload background images to your YouTube channel in just a few simple steps. This tutorial also explains how to edit the new 2.o YouTube design as well.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • YouTube Account
  1. Step 1

Login to your YouTube account and click your name up at the top to view your public channel. If you are not already switched over to the new 2.0 channels then you should see information about switching over right below where others would see the "subscribe" button.

  2. Step 2

At the top below the header of the website(below your username and message links) you'll see a bar that spans across the screen. Click the "Themes and Colors" button to open up a drop-down interface.

  3. Step 3

A lot of users are thrown off by this next step. Rightfully so. YouTube has sort of hidden the options to customize your channel completely by adding yet another link. Once in the drop-down, click the Show advanced Options" link near the bottom.

  4. Step 4

From here you will see several color options to play around with. Clicking each color box will allow you to pick from a variety of colors. You can add a background image as well, just click the radio button and browse for an image on your computer to upload.

  5. Step 5

don't forget about those transparency settings, you can accomplish some very cool effects by changing the transparency settings. Setting them both to 100% means that all boxes will be invisible. This effectively gives you the option to create any layout design in the background image. See resources box for a site to get free YouTube layouts.

  6. Step 6

It's critical to click the "save" button before you leave, this is a common mistake that users make and it ends up making them frustrated enough to just leave it and forget about ever trying to customize their channel in the first place.

Tips & Warnings
  • YouTube only allows your background images to be 256k. If it's any higher then that it simply won't work.
