I nursed my first child for 15 months and my second child for 28 months. My third is currently nursing at 13 months.

Things You'll Need:

  • Mother and baby
  1. Step 1

Lay newborn across your lap- you can use a pillow or boppy to raise the baby up.

  2. Step 2

If nursing with the left breast, use your left hand at your breast and your right hand to cradle baby's head.

  3. Step 3

If nursing with the right breast, use your right hand at your breast and your left hand to cradle baby's head.

  4. Step 4

Use your thumb on top of your aereola and index finger underneath. Squeeze the aereola while brushing it across your newborn's nose and upper lip.

  5. Step 5

When the baby opens, quickly puch nipple and aereola in to mouth. Sometimes the tips of your fingers might get in there. Just slowly slip them out. Make sure baby's lips are flared. Pulling fingers out actually helps to get baby's lips flared.

  6. Step 6

Now take deep breath and slowly let it out. This helps let-down.
