A perfect skin tone can be ruined by hyperpigmentation, excess sun exposure and skin trauma that has damaged the skin and caused it to heal in a lighter or darker shade than the surrounding skin. Many people would like to either even out or totally change their skin tone for a variety of reasons, and there are several products on the market that claim to do just that. You might think you need to see a dermatologist or spend a great deal of time and money to change your skin tone, but there are other convenient ways to do this without breaking the bank.

Change your skin tone by using home remedies. There are several products that have been proven to lighten dark areas of the skin to create a smoother look. If you would like to make your skin tone lighter in specific areas, try applying lime or lemon juice to the effected area. Check the References link for more products to use that can change darker skin tones.

Undergo a tanning procedure. If you want to darken your skin, you can get a tan. Make note, however, that tans are not permanent and usually fade during the cooler winter months. Tans usually require upkeep and come in two forms: indoor tanning and outdoor tanning. Outdoor tanning occurs when the skin is exposed to the sun's rays, but indoor tanning makes use of artificial light to tan the skin. An informed decision should be made before trying either type of tanning. Click the References link titled "Tanning Information" to learn more about the pros and cons of tanning.

Use bleaching creams or lotions. For a more dramatic procedure that will lighten your skin tone throughout your body, you can try using creams with hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is a skin-lightening ingredient that works by decreasing melanin production, and it is commonly used in most bleaching creams and products. Many creams can be bought over the counter in most stores. It is important to remember that your skin tone will not change quickly, but rather over time, through regular use of the product.
