How to Make No-Bake Dog Treats

Your dog will love homemade peanut butter treats.

Dog owners understand the power of treats to get their dogs to do what they should. However, store-bought dog treats can quickly become expensive and are often filled with preservatives. If you'd like to know for sure what ingredients are going into your dog's treats, make your own no-bake treats at home.

Things You'll Need

• 1/2 cup low-fat or fat-free milk
• 3 cups rolled oats
• 1 cup peanut butter

Instructions

1. Combine 1/2 cup of milk and 1 cup of peanut butter in a mixing bowl. Stir with a large spoon to blend them together.

2. Stir in 3 cups of rolled oats until they are thoroughly blended with the other ingredients to create a dough that is very thick.

3. Use a small cookie scoop to scoop the dough out of the bowl. Roll each scoop of dough in your hands until it is a small ball. Place the balls onto a cookie sheet covered with parchment or wax paper.

4. Place the cookie sheet into the refrigerator for at least one hour. Chilling the treats will reduce their stickiness before they are served to your dog.

Tips & Warnings

• These treats can last for up to three weeks in the refrigerator or four months if they are frozen.

• A variation of this recipe calls for 3/4 cup peanut butter, 1/2 cup honey, 1/2 cup oats and 1 cup of Grape Nuts cereal. It is prepared and chilled in the same way.
