Formatting your hard drive is the fastest way to remove data. Formatting is often the perfect solution for getting rid of useless clutter and other unwanted items on your hard drive, so that you can start fresh with a blank drive.

Instructions

    Formatting

  1. Step 1

    Click the "Start" button on the taskbar.

  2. Step 2

    Click "My Computer."

  3. Step 3

    Right-click the drive you want formatted. Select "Format".

  4. Step 4

    Choose the highest allotment size available. Clicking the "Quick Format" box will speed up the format time, but may increase the chance of errors.

  5. Step 5

    Press the "Start" button. Depending on the size of your drive, formatting can take a few minutes.
