The term "psychic detective" refers to an individual who claims to possess psychic abilities, and uses those abilities to help uncover clues and find potential leads to assist investigators in solving crimes. A psychic detective may offer services like describing what may have happened in a case by holding an alleged weapon and recalling how it was used, recall the events which led up to the crime, describe parts of the crime as it happened, or even find the location of the victim or the perpetrator. It is important to remember that the abilities of a psychic detective are widely debated, with many law enforcement agencies dismissing psychic detectives as frauds. However, other law enforcement agencies and private individuals hold a psychic detective responsible for assisting in solving a matter, or even solving the crime entirely by themselves; in fact, some police departments and investigation units have a psychic detective that they regularly call on when they have no other leads. Even if you don't believe in the power of a psychic detective, it couldn't hurt to utilize one in a matter where there are no leads and little to no evidence. If you are interested in the concept, then read on to learn where and how to find a psychic detective to help investigate your case:

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Discuss the Use of a Psychic Detective with Law Enforcement First

As stated before, many law enforcement agencies denounce the abilities and the usefulness of a psychic detective. Further, many police departments would be opposed to the use of a psychic detective, and would likely be irritated if they discovered you hired a private individual to work on the case without their prior knowledge. Before you seek out a psychic detective to help with your case, discuss the idea with the lead detective in your matter first. If he or she dismisses the idea, you may want to consider hiring a psychic detective to work on your case separately, without involving them with law enforcement.

On the other hand, you may be surprised to find that your police department welcomes the idea; in fact, they may have a suggestion for a specific psychic detective to work on the matter. If this is the case, then involving the psychic detective that they recommend would be beneficial to both you and law enforcement - you, because you now have the services of a known and trusted psychic detective on your side, and law enforcement, because they have worked with the individual before, and trust and value their input. In addition, the police will be more apt to provide the psychic detective access to evidence and sensitive leads that they haven't discussed elsewhere, which can help the psychic as they work on your case.

  2. Step 2

Hire a Private Psychic Detective Yourself

If you find that law enforcement is opposed to the idea of hiring a psychic detective, you can still work with a private psychic detective yourself, without the assistance or knowledge of the police. Many families choose to hire a private detective, psychic or otherwise, to work on their case independently of the police, when they feel law enforcement isn't doing enough or there aren't many leads in the matter. You have every right to hire an independent professional to investigate the matter without the police's involvement; however, many choose to keep the fact that they have hired a psychic detective a secret from the police. This practice is merely to prevent law enforcement from becoming offended or angry that you have chosen to seek help elsewhere, as they may look at you hiring a psychic detective as your way of saying you don't trust them, or don't feel they are doing their job well enough. Any leads that a private psychic detective uncovers for you, you can simply pass along to the police as a suggestion or a "premonition" or your part. Of course, you could always divulge to law enforcement that you have hired a psychic detective, and let them think what they will. The choice is yours, and should be decided based on the sensitivity of the matter being investigated, as well as your family's personal preference.

  3. Step 3

Look for a Psychic Detective in Your Area

Once you have decided you will be hiring a psychic detective - and assuming the police don't already have a specific psychic detective in mind - you should begin your search in and around your area. There's a good chance a psychic detective is already working in your town, especially if you live in a larger city or suburban area, but you've never noticed them before. You can search in your local phone book, or search for "psychic detectives" in your area using an online phone book service like Yahoo Yellow Pages. If you are coming up short in your search for a psychic detective, try looking for a traditional psychic, and contact them to see if they offer any investigative services in additional to their regular practice. Many do practice psychic detective work, but don't advertise themselves exclusively as such.

You can find online yellow page services by visiting the addresses below:

Remember, if you come up short on results when searching for "psychic detective," try searching for "psychic," "medium," or "clairvoyant" instead, and asking the individuals you find whether or not they offer psychic investigation services.

  4. Step 4

    Find a Psychic Detective Online

If you're having no luck with finding a psychic detective in your area, or you want to find a renowned psychic detective to work with you on your case, you can turn to the Internet to help you with your search. Of course, you could use a search engine like Google or Yahoo to help you find a psychic detective, but the resources below will aid you in your search:
