How to Make Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits

How to Make Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits thumbnail
You can eliminate allergens by baking homemade dog biscuits.

A peanut butter biscuit is an exciting treat, especially for those dogs who cannot resist a spoonful of creamy peanut butter. Most store-bought biscuits have preservatives and sugars that can cause allergies in dogs. They should only be used occasionally for training, rewards for good behavior or a treat. You can eliminate ingredients that may be allergens to your dog or things like sugar and salt that are not good for dogs.

Things You'll Need

  • Bowl
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup of safflower oil
  • 1/2 cup lactose- and soy-free milk, almond milk or hemp milk

  • 2 1/2 cups oat flour or another wheat-free flour, like spelt or brown rice flour

Instructions

    • 1

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 2

Whisk the egg, safflower oil and milk together in a bowl until smooth.

    • 3

Add the peanut butter and stir together until creamy.

    • 4

Mix the flour and baking soda in a separate bowl.

    • 5

Add the flour mixture to the peanut butter mixture, adding 1/2 cup at a time and mixing until fully combined between each 1/2 cup.

    • 6

Sprinkle flour on the counter top and knead the dough until fully combined. Roll the dough to a 1/4- to 1/2-inch thickness and cut out shapes with a cookie cutter.

    • 7

Place the cookie shapes on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until light brown.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the dough is too dry, add water a teaspoon at a time. If it is too wet, add flour a teaspoon at a time until the consistency is perfect for kneading.

  • You can add a few tablespoons of healthy supplements, like brewers yeast, flax seed, olive oil or whole rolled oats.

  • To make the biscuits sweet, you can add carob chips or molasses.

  • If your dog does not suffer from allergies or lactose intolerance, you can substitute whole wheat flour, any kind of baking powder and regular milk.

  • Do not use chocolate or sugar to sweeten the biscuits. Chocolate is poisonous to dogs, and sugar is unhealthy.

  • Baking time depends on the oven, so check them frequently to make sure they don't burn.
