make a Play-Doh and plastic sheet or glass art project

Are you looking for something for your kindergartner to do? Are you a teacher wanting to impress the parents with their children's art?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • glass or clear plastic sheet (hard or soft)
  • various colors of Play-Doh
  • a writing utensil
  1. Step 1

First of all, you want to decide the age of your project maker. For a kindergatner, I suggest plastic sheets, for an adult, glass would look better. If you grab a thick sheet, it would look nice, but thick and strong pieces are more expensive than the flimsy sheet protectors, for example.

  2. Step 2

Take the clear medium you decided on and draw on it with a pencil or something that is not highly visible a design that you would like to portray. Remember, the easiest way to do this is to section the drawing out in chunks. Remeber, you will not be able to demonstrate shading, unless you want to get more complex and mix the Play-Doh.

  3. Step 3

Once you have a drawing consisting of large blocks, it's like paint by color. Only you will be 'painting' with Play-Doh. Try to smear a thin layer on each block with whatever colors seem appropreate for your design.

  4. Step 4

Once you are all done covering each block with Play-Doh. Lift the glass/plastic and look at the 'painitng' you have created on the other side.

  5. Step 5

If you find a frame that has the glass pretty far from where the picture is inserted, you can do this painting on picture frames. IKEA sells little see through bozes for crafts. Use the inside of the lid for painting and hang up the art project. For kids, using a sheet protector and then sticking the Play-Do side to a sheet of cardboard paper might do.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember, there are a lot of variation possible based on age and level of difficulty. You can make this an easy project for a small child or a beutiful work of art done by an adult.
  • If you frame it, try to keep the Play-Do side of the plastic/glass not touching the backing of the frame (which is usually cardboard). The oils from the Play-Do seep in and leave an oil stain, making the art look messy. I've removed the backing of picture frames and have taped in the glass to the frame to avoid this in the past.
