There are many dangers lurking around your home that can hurt your pet. The items may be in plain site without you even realizing it can be harmful to them. Just as you do for a child, it is important to take certain measures to protect your pet as well. Here are a couple dangers to think about.

  1. Step 1

    ELECTRICAL CORDS -

    Cats and some dogs will chew on just about anything. Mostly cats are attracted to wires because they can sense the electricity running through them. You can use tubing on your wired to prevent injury to you pet and even unplug the items when you are not using them.

  2. Step 2

    CHEW TOYS -

    Dogs love chew toys like rawhide bones. However make sure the one you buy is made in the United States. Imported rawhide bones may be contaminated with chemicals and salmonella from other countries.

  3. Step 3

    PLANTS -

    Some plants are toxic to animals and can really be horrible if your pet gets into them. There are hundreds of plants that are toxic to all sorts of animals. Here are just a few common ones.
    Alocasia
    Aloe
    American Holly
    Azaleas
    Lilies
    Hyacinth
    Dieffenbachia
    Mistletoe

  4. Step 4

    STRING, YARN, RUBBER BANDS, AND DENTAL FLOSS -

    Basically any string substance can be hazardous to your pet. If they are swallowed they can possibly cause intestinal blockages or even strangle your pet.

    CHOCOLATE -

    Most people know better then to give their dog chocolate, but sometimes you may accidentally leave some laying around. Sadly it is poisonous to dogs, cats, and ferrets, so be careful.

    TOYS WITH REMOVABLE PARTS -

    Just as you would with your child make sure there are no removable parts on your pets toys. Many different toys can cause possible choking hazard to animals just as it would for your child.

  7. Step 7

    MEDICATIONS -

    There are several different medicines that can be toxic to your pet. To avoid any hazards always keep your medications away from anyone's reach.
