Getting rid of lice can be a pesky problem and unfortunately in most areas, the lice have become immune to the lice treatments sold in drugstores. I have found a tried-and-true method for getting rid of lice.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Listerine
  • vinegar
  • shower caps
  • Lice comb (metal)sold at drugstores
  • wash cloth
  • Denorex shampoo
  1. Step 1

Bending head over a plugged sink, or tub, pour Listerine over hair. You need to completely saturate all of your hair. Dunk your head into the Listerine that has filled up in the sink or tub to make sure it soaks your scalp as well.

  2. Step 2

Squeeze out the excess liquid from your hair and put on a shower cap covering all of your hair. You might want to wrap a towel around your neck to help as some of the liquid will drip down your neck or face. Leave on hair for 3 hours.

  3. Step 3

Return to sink or tub, plug it up again, and this time pour vinegar all over the hair and saturate the hair and scalp. Again, put on a shower cap with a neck towel and leave on your hair for 1 hour.

  4. Step 4

Take a shower and wash hair with Denorex shampoo, leaving the shampoo in your hair for 5 minutes before rinsing. Follow with your regular conditioner. Leave your conditioner on your hair and section your hair into 4 parts.

  5. Step 5

Start with the first part, and carefully go through 1/2 inch of hair with the Lice comb starting at the scalp. Rinse the comb in hot water or alcohol and wipe on a wash cloth between each time you comb through the hair.

  6. Step 6

Wash all towels, bedding and clothes in HOT water and put in dryer on the hottest setting.

  7. Step 7

Repeat every day for 10 days straight! I know it seems like a lot, but it is much better than thinking you've gotten rid of the lice only to find you still have them. If you do it this way the first time, you won't end up frustrated like so many people who've tried to get rid of lice, only to find out they still have them!

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't forget to wash purses, hats, scarves, stuffed animals or anything else that might have come into contact with your head. If it can't be washed, then put it in a black plastic bag and store it for 2 weeks.
  • You should treat (or at the very least check daily) any other people living in the same household. Lice is extremely contagious!
  • When using the Listerine and vinegar, make sure to hold breath, then pull head away and take deep, clean breaths to avoid the fumes!

on 8/18/2009 Head lice is very hard to get rid of if you don't catch it right away. Great article 5* Alternatives are always so much better then the chemicals. Isn't it crazy people put pesticides on their children!
