Macaroons are a light cookie typically made with egg whites and ground almonds. An easy version requires fewer than a half-dozen ingredients. Mix them up, pipe the mixture onto a cookie sheet and bake the sweet treat for a snack or dessert. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 2/3 cup almonds grounded
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 12 almonds whole
  • Mixer
  • Mixing bowls
  • Resealable plastic bag
  • Nonstick cookie sheet

Instructions

      Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

      In a bowl, mix the ground almonds and sugar.

      In another bowl, beat the egg whites until they are frothy.

      Add the almond extract to the almond mixture, then fold it into the egg whites.

      Place the mixture into a plastic bag. Cut off a tip at the corner of the bag. Or fill a pastry bag with a medium to large fitted pipe.

      Pipe or bag out 12 circles about 2 inches across and 2 inches apart from each other. Press an almond into the middle of each.

      Bake the macaroons for 20 to 28 minutes, until lightly browned. Cool slightly before serving.
