For softball players, increasing bat speed can make hitting slow pitch softball much easier.

You can increase bat speed with proper swing mechanics, combined with softball hitting aids.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Softball bat
  • Softball bat speed device
  • Proper swing mechanics
  • Softball strength training
  1. Step 1

Clock your current swing to give yourself a benchmark for your starting softball bat speed.

Use a softball hitting aid that tracks your swing speed. This way you can test your swing mechanics and see what improves bat speed the most effectively for you.

  2. Step 2

Visualize the ideal bat path to increase softball bat speed.

Practice swinging a softball bat as if it is a softball attached to the end of a rope. This softball hitting technique can improve the resistance you create at the point of contact and increase bat speed.

  3. Step 3

Strengthen your bottom hand to increase bat speed for softball.

The bottom hand is what pulls your softball bat through the hitting zone. If you have a weak non dominant hand, your bat speed will be adversely effected. Softball strength training of the wrist and forearm will counteract this problem.
