How to Change the Fuel Filter on a Dodge Diesel Pick-Up

Dodge makes a line of trucks outfitted with diesel engines. The main difference between a regular gasoline engine and a diesel is that since diesel fuel tends to be a little dirtier than regular gasoline, you may need to change the fuel filter more often. Changing a fuel filter on a Dodge Diesel is not unlike changing the filter on most trucks.

Things You'll Need

• Fuel filter
• Socket wrench with 1 1/8-inch socket
• Catch pan
• Clean rag

Instructions

1. Open the hood and locate the fuel filter. It is located on the driver's side near the firewall.

2. Position a catch pan underneath the fuel filter drain hose.

3. Open the drain valve to allow fuel to drain out of the system so that you can remove the filter.

4. Remove the fuel filter housing cover.

5. Lift the fuel filter housing lid up and pull the old filter out along with the O-ring.

6. Lubricate the new O-ring and install the new fuel filter. Installation is the reverse of removal.

7. Crank the engine to prime the fuel system.
