How to Change the Fuel Filter on a Dodge Diesel Pick-Up

Dodge makes a line of trucks outfitted with diesel engines. The main difference between a regular gasoline engine and a diesel is that since diesel fuel tends to be a little dirtier than regular gasoline, you may need to change the fuel filter more often. Changing a fuel filter on a Dodge Diesel is not unlike changing the filter on most trucks.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the hood and locate the fuel filter. It is located on the driver's side near the firewall.

    • 2

Position a catch pan underneath the fuel filter drain hose.

    • 3

Open the drain valve to allow fuel to drain out of the system so that you can remove the filter.

    • 4

Remove the fuel filter housing cover.

    • 5

Lift the fuel filter housing lid up and pull the old filter out along with the O-ring.

    • 6

Lubricate the new O-ring and install the new fuel filter. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    • 7

Crank the engine to prime the fuel system.
