How to Learn Spanish in Chat Rooms

Learning a new language is a very rewarding experience. It will provide you with opportunities for employment and friendship that you may never have experienced otherwise. Spanish is the fastest-growing language group in the United States, set to outpace English in total number of speakers by 2050. Learning Spanish in a chat room can be a helpful first step in acquiring this beautiful and versatile language.

Instructions

    • 1

Learn the basics. Don't try to tackle learning Spanish by simply entering a chat room and trying to talk. Be sure that you have the fundamentals of Spanish down first, or you will quickly become discouraged. There are several classes you can take for free at community centers or online. You can also check out language learning software such as Pimsleur or Rosetta Stone.

    • 2

Choose the right site. Once you have a firm grasp of Spanish vocabulary and grammar, choose the appropriate website. Do not select a site that is too steeped in slang or hostile to foreigners. Chats run by a university system in another country will likely be the most beneficial to your efforts to learn Spanish. (See Resources.)

    • 3

Use your mouth. Chances are good that you want to know how to do more than simply read and write Spanish. For that reason, you need to be sure that you are pronouncing the dialogue as it appears on the screen. The more senses you use in learning (auditory, tactile, oral) the more quickly and easily you will acquire the skills you desire.

    • 4

Practice every day. Don't be content to chat once a week; the more you immerse yourself in Spanish the faster and more efficiently you will learn. Also, the more you reinforce what you have already mastered the easier it will be to recall.

    • 5

Graduate from written to spoken Spanish. Nothing can compare to having a conversation with a native Spanish-speaker face to face rather than online. If there aren't many Spanish-speakers in your area, make friends with someone you meet in the chat room and ask for a Skype conference.

Tips & Warnings

  • As with all anonymous interactions over the Internet, be cautious with your information and identity.
