How to Use Carbamide Peroxide
Carbamide peroxide is also known as percarbamide, urea peroxide and urea hydrogen peroxide. It's a combination of urea (CH4N2O) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) that forms a single reaction product known as an adduct. Pure carbamide peroxide is a white, crystalline solid that is only slightly soluble in water and contains about 35 percent hydrogen peroxide. It's is an oxidizing agent that is corrosive in high concentrations. However, in low concentrations, carbamide peroxide is frequently used to whiten teeth, relieve minor dental irritation and dissolve ear wax.

Whiten teeth with carbamide peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is the active ingredient in this preparation which oxidizes stains on the tooth enamel. This application of carbamide peroxide comes in a gel that may be applied in a mouth guard each night or as a one time application in the dentist's office.

Treat oral lesions with carbamide peroxide. Minor irritation such as gum inflammation and canker sores may be relieved with carbamide peroxide. A typical preparation for this application is a solution of 10 percent carbamide peroxide in a base of glycerol.

Disperse ear wax with carbamide peroxide. This compound can effectively emulsify ear wax, allowing it to be easily removed. The typical concentration of this preparation is about 6.5 percent carbamide peroxide.

Examine the contraindications of carbamide peroxide. Some individuals may be allergic to carbamide peroxide or its associated ingredients such as glycerin or hydrogen peroxide. Women who pregnant or breast-feeding should not use carbamide peroxide.

Study the side effects of carbamide peroxide. The most common adverse reactions are irritation, mouth pain or rashes. It may also cause burning, itching, redness or swelling in rare cases.
