Visioneer is a leading manufacturer of scanners for the home and office. With a variety of products sold, Visioneer's flatbed scanners are the most popular for use in the home. The 5600 model is a one-touch flatbed scanner and just like most scanners, the glass can become dirty over time. To yield the highest-quality scanned images, you should clean it regularly, especially if you start to notice smudges or distortion in your documents.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soft, Clean Cloth
  • Isopropyl Alcohol or Screen Wipe
  1. Step 1

Use a soft, clean cloth, such as one used for cleaning eyeglasses or a cotton rag. Rags made from wool, rayon, polyester or other similar materials may scratch the glass.

  2. Step 2

Open the lid and wipe the scanner glass with the cloth. According to Visioneer's OneTouch instructions, this process will remove dust and debris.

  3. Step 3

Unplug your scanner and dampen a clean, soft rag with a little isopropyl alcohol. You can also use a screen wipe. Rub the glass clean to remove such things as correction fluid and fingerprints. This is not mentioned in Visioneer's 5600 installation/owner's manual, but it is mentioned in other support documents on their website on cleaning flatbed scanners. (See references.) If you're concerned about your warranty or damaging your scanner, call Visioneer at (900) 776-5724 to ask about hard-to-remove stains on your 5600 model.

  4. Step 4

Close the lid and don't use the scanner until the isopropyl alcohol dries.
