How to Store Dahlia Flowers in Winter
Dahlias bulbs produce plants with beautiful and colorful flowers. Because the flowers are perennials, so the flowers grow back year after year. Wait about one week after the first frost of the season to begin working on dahlia tubers. A single frosting is sufficient to help preserve the tuber over the winter.

Cut the dahlias down, leaving a 6-inch stem above ground.

Dig up the tubers from the ground by carefully using a gardening fork or spade.

Brush dirt from the dahlia tuber and wash it in water to remove all soil. Insects and disease may remain in any retained soil, so wash it well. Dry it with paper towels.

Place tubers in the bottom of paper bags and cover in peat moss.

Store the dahlia tubers in a cool and dark location for the winter. A basement or garage works well. Do not allow them to freeze.
