Floating click-lock bamboo flooring, which is similar to Pergo flooring, can be easily installed by the average home owner. This variety of flooring does not require nails or glue during the installation and can be installed onto a plywood sub floor. The cost of click-lock flooring is comparable to that of traditional nail-down flooring. Professional installation can be expensive, so homeowners could save a substantial amount by choosing to lay the bamboo floor themselves.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Examine the plywood for any nails or screws sticking up out of the wood. Hammer them down so that they lie flat against the floor.

  2. Step 2

Sweep the plywood floor to remove any dirt or debris.

  3. Step 3

Lay the underlayment on the floor against one wall. This layer will help reduce any squeaking of the floor and absorb sound when walking on the finished floor. The underlayment should be installed one section at a time as you install the floor to reduce damage to the underlayment during installation.

  4. Step 4

Lay down the first row of bamboo flooring on top of the underlayment flush against the wall. Lay the pieces until you have created one row of bamboo flooring. Use a miter saw to cut the last piece of flooring to fit.

  5. Step 5

Start the second row of bamboo flooring on the same side of the room where the first row ended. This will ensure that the joints of the flooring are staggered which will create a stronger floor. Push the pieces of flooring firmly against the first row until they fit tightly together.

  6. Step 6

Continue to lay down the underlayment and bamboo flooring until the entire floor has been covered.
