How to Learn Streetball
Streetball is a popular form of basketball that is often played in urban areas. While the rules are essentially the same as regular basketball, the game is only played on one side of a basketball court. Streetball players try to trick their opponents by getting them to look away or by distracting them with dizzying ball handling tricks. To be successful on the court, you'll need to learn some streetball moves and tricks and get plenty of practice.

1
Visit the Street Ballin website. Watch the instructional videos performed by the Notic Players, a streetball team. Start with the Crossover 1, a basic streetball move in which the player completes a turn while dribbling. As you watch the videos, practice imitating the moves with a basketball.

2
Learn the "Backbreaker." Start by dribbling the ball three to six inches off the ground. In one swift movement, grab the basketball and throw it behind your back, making it bounce through your legs. Watch and practice the other streetball moves on the website.

Watch other players. Visit the Courts of the World website to search for streetball courts in your city. Once you have found a court, bring a friend and watch a few amateur games. Cities such as Philadelphia, New York, Boston, and Atlanta have professional streetball teams with regularly scheduled games and a large fan base. Visit the website of the SBA, or the Street Basketball Association, for a listing of professional teams.

Get involved in the streetball scene. Visit your local YMCA or community center and ask if there are any teams you can get involved with. Most urban areas have streetball leagues for players of all ability and age levels. The rules and regulations of streetball can be different according to where you play, so talk to other players about what moves are and aren't allowed on the court.
