How to Make an Origami Paper Flower

Artificial flowers can be a beautiful alternative to real flowers. Instead of silk or plastic artificial flowers, however, consider paper flowers. Learning to make Origami paper flowers that are lovely to behold might be an enjoyable crafting project. By choosing brightly colored or patterned Origami paper, and by taking the time to make your folds carefully, you can create a beautiful Origami tulip to proudly display in your home.

Instructions

  1. Make the Tulip

    • 1

Fold a square piece of Origami paper in half from corner to opposite corner and unfold. Fold the paper in half from one side edge to the opposite side edge and unfold. Fold the paper in half from the top to the bottom and unfold.

    • 2

Collapse the square along the fold lines made in Step 1. Fold along the original diagonal lines, and, as you do this, tuck the horizontal and vertical fold lines in. This will create a collapsed shape that ends up being a smaller square with a vertical fold line down the center.

    • 3

Hold the square so that the fold line is vertical and it is a diamond shape. Fold the side points in toward the vertical fold. Fold only the top layer of paper-do not fold the bottom layer-and then unfold.

    • 4

Fold the very tips of the side points in toward the folds just made in Step 3. Refold the fold made in Step 3.

    • 5

Bring the bottom points on each side in toward the center and crease these folds. Turn the paper over and repeat this fold with the other paper layer.

    • 6

Hold the bottom point made in Step 5 in one hand, and with the other hand carefully open the top folds of the paper. Spread apart the paper points gently and it will begin to resemble a tulip.

    Make the Stem

    • 7

Place a square piece of green paper, colored side down, on a work surface. Fold one corner to the opposite corner to form a triangle shape and unfold.

    • 8

Fold the top edge and the left edge in toward the fold line made in Step 1 to create a kite-shaped piece. Fold in both lower edges toward the center fold to create a diamond shape.

    • 9

Fold the diamond in half the long way. Fold the top layer over from corner 1 to the center point of the long edge and crease well. Flip the paper over and fold the same edge back on the other side and crease well. Unfold the second fold only.

    • 10

Bring the unfolded point back in to the crease line made in Step 3 when the second fold was unfolded. Then, refold along the same crease line.

    • 11

Fold in the top layer as shown in the diagram and crease well. Fold the top of the leaf outward and back to create a flared out portion of the leaf and stem. Insert the point of the tulip into the side of the stem just below the flared out leaf.
