A doorstop is a handy household item to have. Often you can find cute and whimsical doorstops at specialty stores, but here is one you can customize to your liking and create yourself at home for a fraction of the cost of buying a ready-made one.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two 7 inch fabric squares
  • Two matching buttons
  • Felt scraps in red, orange and yellow
  • Rice or sand
  • Polyester stuffing
  • Needle and thread
  • Sewing machine

    Rooster Doorstop

  1. Step 1

Cut a triangle out of the yellow felt. Fold in half and sew along the diagonal to form the beak. From the red felt, cut out a shape that looks like a rooster's comb-flat along the bottom and continuous half circles along the top.

  2. Step 2

Place one of the fabric squares in front of you, right-side up. Place the felt beak on the top right section of the square, raw edges together. On the same square, place the comb along the top edge, about 3/4 of an inch away from the upper left-hand corner with the raw edges together.

  3. Step 3

Sew both beak and comb in place. You should now have one square piece of fabric with the beak on the right and the comb on the left, both on the right side of the fabric.

  4. Step 4

Take the second square of fabric and place right-side down on top of the square you just attached the beak and comb to. Sew the two squares together along three sides, leaving one side open.

  5. Step 5

Turn the rooster inside-out and sew on the buttons above the beak. These will be the rooster's eyes. Next, fill with polyester stuffing, sand or rice depending on how you want to use it. Sew the remaining side closed.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can customize this idea however you want. Try different animals or just use colorful fabric.
