How to Create an XML Google Sitemap

Just as the internet is an intricate web of sites, your website is an intricate web of pages and this makes it hard for Google to find all of the pages on your site. One of the best ways to get the pages of your website found is to submit an XML Google sitemap. Don’t waste your time by painstakingly creating a sitemap in HTML because this won’t work. Here are some easy steps to use to create a sitemap for submission.

1. Make sure that your website is ready for submission. You can submit an XML Google sitemap as many times as you want but then you will have to go through the process of creating again.

2. Go to xml-sitemaps.com. This is the easiest to use sitemap creation website that I could find.

3. Enter your URL criteria in the entry field and then push the start button at the bottom of the page. You can play with the criteria in the middle but I haven’t found the need to use it yet.

4. After hitting start it will begin to search through your site. Depending on the size of your website, this could take a few minutes.

5. Now you have the option of downloading the un-compressed or compressed versions of your sitemap. Unless your site is huge, you should be able to download the un-compressed version.

6. You can also download the HTML version of your sitemap, but this is mainly for your visitors to navigate through your site. It won’t help you with Google.
