Instructions

  1. Your Building

    • 1

Secure a building for your pet-washing stations. It should be a building that has an entrance foyer and plenty of room to wash. A store room is also a good idea. To secure a building, you must either sign a lease on an existing building or take out a mortgage to buy a building. Whether you rent or buy will depend on your finances, and your projected use of the building. It is a good idea to start with a year-long lease to make sure that the business is worthwhile before you decide to buy the building.

    • 2

Set up the foyer of your pet-washing building. Install a receptionist desk; have chairs ready for customers in the waiting area. The foyer should be separated from the main washing room by a door that can be pulled shut and locked.

    • 3

Set up your storeroom in the back. Load shelves with pet shampoo, towels, brushes and other equipment. The storeroom should be separated from the main washing room with a door that can be pulled shut and locked.

    Your Pet-washing Room

    • 4

Lay out your pet washing room to be situated between your storeroom and the foyer.

    • 5

Install laminate flooring or another type of flooring that is easy to clean. Make sure the floor has at least one exposed drain. The walls of the room should be painted with water and humidity-resistant paint, or covered in water-resistant bathroom-type tile.

    • 6

Create three rows of two sinks each, or more depending on the size of the room. Each sink should be freestanding and at waist height. Next to the sinks, install freestanding stainless-steel tables at the same height, with each far enough from the others to allow people to walk in between them.

    • 7

Attach shower nozzles to each sink, and use at least a 4-foot-long nozzle cord that can be removed for easier washing.

    • 8

Attach a leash-rack in between the table and the sink. Position it so that the animals can be tied to both the table and sink with no danger of them falling off.

    Outfitting Your Pet-washing Room

    • 9

Add bins underneath the tables for things like shampoos, brushes and accessories. You can do this after the sinks and tables have been installed.

    • 10

Add a main hose to the room itself, to wash any soapy water and dog hair down the main drain.

    • 11

Cover lighting equipment and any other equipment with waterproof casing.

Tips & Warnings

  • With this set-up, you can have six trained pet washing professionals working at the same time. When taking appointments, take the temperament of the dogs into consideration.

  • Remember to never allow dogs to be left alone on the washing tables.
