Rainmeter is a program you can download from the Google website that allows you to customize your desktop experience. The program places information such as system performance, weather, news and a clock on your desktop. If you don't like the skins that come with the Rainmeter program, you have the option of using your own skins.

  • Download the Rainmeter program from the Google Code website. Click on the downloaded Rainmeter program to install it on your computer. You must agree to the terms of usage in order to complete the installation process.

  • Open the Rainmeter folder after the installation wizard is finished. Click on the green and yellow Rainmeter icon. Doing so moves the icon to your system tray, allowing you to customize your Rainmeter skin.

  • Visit a website that allows you to download Rainmeter skins, such as Customize.org or SkinBase.org. Some sites may require you to create a new user account in order to utilize their skins.

  • Browse through the available skins and choose one that suits your taste.

  • Click on the "Download" link for the Rainmeter skin you have chosen.

  • Unzip the downloaded Rainmeter skin by right-clicking on the file and selecting the "Extract" option. After the extraction is complete, copy the folder to the Rainmeter "Skins" folder that is located in your program files.

  • Right-click on the Rainmeter "teardrop" that is located in your system tray.

  • Select "Configs." Choose the skin that you want to appear. If you don't see your new skin listed, click on the Rainmeter "Refresh" option. The skin allows you to add the "CPU bar," which shows system information about your computer such as memory, IP address and other hard drive information. You can also add a clock, news and weather.
