Do you like wearing pretty clothes, enjoying art and looking uncluttered in your outfit.

If you do,then this is a step-by-step instruction manual in how to wrap and wear a saree.

A sari is one of the traditonal outfits that an Indian woman will wear in her lifetime.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a saree ( 6 or more yards of fabric.)
  • a petticoat, ankle length.
  • a midriff blouse, that fits close to the body.
  • space.
  1. Step 1
    this is a generic saree petticoat.

    take plain end of saree and tuck it into your petticoat just below the navel. take other end and tuck the same way as above.

  2. Step 2

    begin wrapping the saree around your waist twice tucking into your petticoat. take loose sections of the fabric and begin making pleats that are parallel to the floor and are at least half a hand wide.

  3. Step 3

    take those pleats and begin tucking them into the sari facing the left.

  4. Step 4
    front and back of saree, finished.

    take the other end of the saree and drape it over your shoulder.


    * you can pleat the pallu or leave it plain.
    - the pallu is the part of the saree that is draped over the shoulder and lays over the back.

Tips & Warnings
  • wear a petticoat that has an elastic drawstring waist, that way it'll stay put.
  • don't worry if you're out of shape, everyone can wear a sari
  • don't wrap too tightly. the saree could tear.
  • do not wash in washer, could cause shrinkage or severe damage.
