How to Clean Keyboard Spills
Computer keyboard spills are a common occurrence, whether from an office worker bumping a coffee cup or a child at home elbowing a soda. Keyboard manufacturers often take these things into consideration and design computer keyboards to withstand spills. The key to avoid permanent damage is to clean up the spill quickly and completely.

1
Turn off the computer. Unplug the keyboard from the computer. Immediately flip the keyboard to drain as much liquid as possible.
-
2
Blot the keyboard with a paper towel to absorb most of the remaining moisture. Use the edges and corners of the paper towel to sop up liquid in between the keys.

3
Moisten the tip of the cotton swab with rubbing alcohol. Rub sticky spots with the swab. Pay special attention to the spaces between the keys to clean messes that can cause the keys to stick.
-
4
Clean underneath a key by gently lifting on one side of it with your finger. It will pop off, allowing you to clean the key contacts. Use a alcohol-moistened cotton swab to remove any stickiness. Place the key over the contact and press on until it clicks back into place.

5
Wait 10 minutes to allow the alcohol to dry completely. Plug the keyboard back into the computer and turn the computer on.
