Crickets are everywhere in wooded areas, they make very good bait for fishing and can be food for many reptiles and other pets.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wide mouth mason jar
  • Apples
  • Trowel (optional)
  1. Step 1

Find a spot under a log or other natural cover.

  2. Step 2

Take both lids off of the mason jar.

  3. Step 3

Dig a hole in the area of your choice large enough for the mason jar (for best results dig the hole a few inches deeper than needed and make a "cone" of dirt leading to the rim of the jar).

  4. Step 4

Place the mason jar in the hole.

  5. Step 5

Cut up the apple and put it in the jar, crush the apple a little to increase the smell.

  6. Step 6

Replace the log or other natural cover that was originally in the area, if you place the trap in an open area the crickets will be less likely to come to it, as they live under logs and such more.

  7. Step 7

Leave trap overnight and the next day check it, if no crickets are in the trap leave it for a few more nights then try moving it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Patience is a virtue, overchecking the trap will make it less effective.
