Things You'll Need:
- 2 yards of two different fabrics
- Stash of scrap strips
- Scrap batting cut into 12-inch squares
- Scissors
- Pins
- Sewing machine
- Thread to match your fabric
-
Step 1
Cut 10 12-inch squares out of each fabric. Cut all of those 12-inch fabric squares on the diagonal to make 40 half square triangles (20 half square triangles of each fabric).
-
Step 2
Layer one piece of batting and one triangle of both fabrics. Put one triangle on either side of the batting, in opposite corners. Put a pin the in middle of the square to hold all three layers in place. Sew the three layers together along the diagonal.
-
Step 3
Place one strip along the diagonal at the center of the square with its right side facing the right side of the triangle. Sew this strip in place.
-
Step 4
Fold and press the strip toward the outside edge of the square.
-
Step 5
Work your way down half of the square adding strips until you reach the corner of the square.
-
Step 6
Repeat steps 4-6 on the other side of the square. Trim all four sides of the square so it measures 11 inches
-
Step 7
Cut 2-inch strips of fabric. Fold the strips in half lengthwise and press.
-
Step 8
Select two finished squares. Put the right sides together and line up edges. Pin in place if necessary. Place the folded strip, along the side you are going to sew, of the top square. Sew all three pieces together. Repeat until you have four blocks sewn together. This will finish one row.
-
Step 9
Trim away any excess fabric from along the joined seams. Fold down and pin in place the 2-inch strip. Whipstitch by hand the strip over the unfinished seam.
-
Step 10
Join the rows together using the same process as steps 2-3. Add binding around the entire edge of the quilt to finish.
