How to Make a Quilt Using Scrap Strips
If you love to quilt and are looking for a new way to create a beautiful blanket, consider sewing a quilt made from strips of fabric. This pattern can use up any scrap material you have on hand without looking like a cheap project. The strips of fabric will make a striped pattern that gives the blanket a modern look, but the traditional batting and patchwork quality will still be there.

1
Gather the scraps of fabric you want to use and cut them to equal sizes. Cut rectangle strips so that you have patches with straight lines. Stack the scraps on top of each other and cut lines by cutting through each layer for a quick way to get pieces of identical size.
-
2
Lay two strips on top of each other, with the right sides facing each other on the inside. Sew a 1/4-inch seam along one of the long edges.
-
-
3
Repeat with all of the strips so that you have a panel of fabric made up of the strips.
-
4
Cut a piece of cotton batting to match the size of the strip panel. Cotton batting is a thin material used in quilting and can be purchased at most fabric stores. Lay the batting behind the right side of the patchwork panel.
-
5
Cut a piece of backing fabric that is the same size as the other two layers. Lay the backing panel on top of the right side of the strip panel.
-
6
Sew a 1/4-inch seam along three edges of the fabrics, using the sewing machine. Sew a seam along the fourth side, stopping within 3 inches of the corner, so that you have an opening along the fourth edge.
-
7
Pull the quilt inside out using the 3-inch opening. You should have a smooth hem on the outside, with the seams on the inside. Tuck in raw edges of the 3-inch opening and sew the opening closed.
