How to Stop an Anxiety or Panic Attack

Anxiety attacks are extremely debilitating to the person suffering from an anxiety attack and could become stressful for the family members. Knowning what to do before and during a panic attack could make a huge difference. Anxiety and Panic Attacks are very similar in the type of symptoms a person will have while having one.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Stop what you are doing and concentrate on your breathing. What you are trying to do is regulate your breathing pattern. You want to stop the hyperventilating from getting worse.

  2. Step 2

    Keep telling your self your ok, you are not going to faint or pass out. You have to talk your self out of the attack. Practice the breathing exercise and try to relax and tell yourself nothing is going to happen. If sitting in a chair grab hold of the chair so your feel grounded and will not fall.

  3. Step 3

    You are going to take one hand and make a fist put it on your sternum, which is in the middle where your rib cage meets. Then you will take your other hand, place it on top of the other, and push in. Now what you just did was push the air of your lungs this should help to regulate your breathing pattern
